The 69 year old father, Shehada Issa, has been charged with murder for shooting Amir, his 29 year old son, because he did not agree with his sexuality at all.
Issa was taken into custody by the Los Angeles police after they had discovered Amir’s body outside of the family’s house in the North Hills Area. The body of Issa’s wife was also found in the bathroom stabbed to death.
The police were told by Issa himself that he had shot his son outside of the home purely out of self defense, right after he had found his wife’s body, but the police district attorney’s office said Issa had previously threatened to kill Amir for being gay.
Issa has also claimed Amir was “armed with a knife”, but there was no knife to be found at the scene of the crime. Instead, it is believed the father used a shotgun to attack his son.
“The murder was committed because of the victim’s sexual orientation and because of the defendant’s perception of that status and the victim’s association with a person and a group of that status.” Prosecutors said.
Detective John Doerbecker has called the incident a ‘horrible family tragedy’ and added that the father and son had previous issues before the incident and that Issa was going to evict his son soon.
Issa is currently being held by police until his hearing on April 11 and If convicted, he faces life in prison.
