Katy Perry is currently dating Orlando Bloom, but was previously married to Russell Brand before the pair filed for divorce in 2011.
But all of this escaped the mind of Spencer Morrill when he became convinced that he was in a RELATIONSHIP with the singer for SIX YEARS, despite having never personally met and only ‘speaking’ to her on the phone once.
He’s now the latest subject of MTV’s Catfish, in which he reveals how he was duped by a woman that definitely wasn’t Katy Perry.
He tells Nev Schulman and Max Joseph: ‘It was an immediate connection. A million “I love yous” back and forth. It was pretty cool.
‘I would like to meet face to face and see if there’s a future here.’

‘She’s awesome’, he added. ‘Katy’s funnier than I am, she’s smarter than I am. I don’t know how many people give her credit for that, but she’s very intelligent. Katy’s full of life, huge heart.’
Spencer also believed that he had been exchanging emails and texts with the star on a regular basis, and even crafted an engagement ring that’s said to have cost him ’25 percent of his savings.’
In reality, he was being duped by a woman named Harriet who lived in Gloucester – but Spencer was in denial.
Harriet has since apologised to Spencer, and says she felt obliged to continue the bizarre façade after it first began.
‘I just got to a point to where I couldn’t imagine like not talking to you… I’ve been through some tough times throughout the time we’ve been talking the past six years. Like my dad died two years ago’, she said.
‘I’m like genuinely sorry. I can’t change what I did, but I understand that it was really wrong.’
