David Hanson believed he was meeting with a 14 year old girl he had been speaking to through the internet when he was instead confronted by vigilante group Dark Justice instead.
The alleged girl he was talking to had been the pedophile hunter group all along, and only a few days before their first meeting in July, he had sent very explicit messages to her.
Hanson was jailed for eight months and have of course pleaded guilty to his one count of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.
He had first contacted the fake profile of an 18 year old girl named Amanda, who had after receiving a message from Hanson, told him she had lied about her age and was actually 14 years old. They had exchanged phone numbers despite the fact and had sent 750 messages over the course of four days.
The plan they had organized was to meet at the Centre for Life in Newcastle before going back to the girl’s house where Hanson would stay overnight because her parents were away.
Prosecutor Anne Richardson says “They (Dark Justice) spotted the defendant and contacted the police. Both told him they were from Dark Justice, the defendant said: “I wasn’t going to have sex with her”. She adds “He said he felt sick and looked as if he was going to faint.”
Contained within the backpack Hanson was carrying was a tooth brush, tooth paste, and condoms.
Speaking after an earlier hearing a Dark Justice member said: “His eyes rolled back and he just went straight to the ground. We confronted him in the same way we do all our cases, there’s no aggression or anything. We just revealed who we were and he passed out. We prepare ourselves for all sorts of outcomes at these meetings but we certainly weren’t expecting that.”
