Staff Discover Rat Poison In The Food Of A Nursing Home

At a nursery home in East Sussex, rat poison was discovered in the stored food, according to reports.

Yesterday morning a chef at the Ersham House nursing home in Hailsham had discovered the rat pellets in bags of flour and uncooked pasta in a store room. Although emergency services had already been at the home treating 6 residents with diarrhea, the police believe that this was not caused by the poison. The poison, thankfully, was actually discovered before any of the residents had ate it.

“The food store is a separate building in a private courtyard which is kept locked. Every morning the chef goes into the food stores for fresh supplies. The chef went in this morning, made the discovery and raised the alarm. The rat poison would have had to have happened overnight or it would have been spotted earlier.” The home’s owner, Hadi Rajabali, 60, told The Sun.

Upon interrogating current staff about who might have entered in the middle of the night, the Sussex police are also asking anyone who might have any information at all to get in touch.

A spokesman states “Shortly before 8.30am on Friday police were called to the home where staff had discovered food had been contaminated with rat poison. Alternative supplies were obtained so they did not go hungry. Six people are being treated for diarrhoea but this is not thought to be linked.”
